EC meets political parties today over electronic transmission of results

The Electoral Commission (EC) will today (Saturday) demonstrate its electronic transmission system to all the political parties contesting the upcoming December 7 general elections.

The Commission had earlier abrogated the tender process for the electronic transmission of results after two shortlisted firms, Scytel and Smartmatic failed to meet the criteria set by the EC.

“After a careful assessment of the technical demonstration and evaluation of the technical and financial proposals, the evaluation panel was not satisfied with any of the tenderers,” a statement signed by the EC Head of Communications, Eric Dzakpasu, noted.

The EC subsequently cancelled the electronic transmission of the 2016 election results from all the 275 constituencies.

It is unclear what informed the EC to make a u-turn on its earlier stated position.

Representatives of the various parties will have an opportunity to ask all the questions bothering their minds on the electronic system.
