EC assures voters of issuance of photo ID cards

Accra, May 26, GNA – The Electoral Commission (EC) on Wednesday reiterated its assurance that every registered voter would be provided with a photo identity card before Election 2004.

It said reports on the exercise were being prepared to enable the EC to devise strategies for the mopping up exercise.

Mr Henry Okine, EC Director of Public Affairs, was reacting to Ghana News Agency (GNA) findings on the just ended voters’ photo-taking exercise in the Volta Region with particular reference to the Hohoe South Constituency.

The GNA found out that in some registration centres about 30 registered voters could not have their photographs taken and this meant that a substantial number of voters could be disenfranchised. Mr Okine said when the regional statistics were released, the EC would be able to know how many cameras or personnel should be assigned to do the mopping up exercise.
