EACH Foundation Holds Scholarship for Excellence Awards Ceremony

EACH Foundation, a North Carolina Non-Profit organization with the objective of increasing educational accessibility for children in Africa held its Scholarship for Excellence Awards Ceremony on Tuesday, December 13 at the Lorenz Wolf Junior Secondary School in Tema. The EACH Scholarship for Excellence makes scholarships available to brilliant but underprivileged primary, junior and senior secondary school students.

Over all, 7 JSS students and 3 primary school pupils were designated as EACH scholars. At the Senior Secondary level, 3 Students of the Presbyterian Boys? Secondary School, Legon were also awarded scholarships by the EACH-Presec subsidiary of the foundation.

The theme for the Award Ceremony was Voices. In a speech read for him by Mr. Emmanuel Ashietey, the chairman of the EACH-Ghana Board of Trustees, Mr. Frank Eshun called on parents to show more interest in the education of their children. He emphasized that, ?Voices of parents are crucial if students are to become all they can be. When parents are involved, students achieve more, regardless of socioeconomic status, ethnic background, or parents? education level. He also stated that the most obvious and powerful use of the voice of teachers is in relationships?relationships in which they communicate the message that a student has everything he/she needs to be successful.?

The scholarship recipients were called upon to continue to strive for excellence in academia and in their respective communities. The scholarship recipients have become part of the community of EACH Scholars, some of whom have completed their Junior Secondary School education and are currently pursing secondary education in elite secondary schools across the nation.

In addition to the scholarships, the foundation donated several books to the schools of the EACH Scholars as part of its ?Let Reading be Cherished? Campaign.
