Dzamesi urges department heads to demonstrate political neutrality

Kpando, Jun 2, GNA – Heads of decentralised departments should demonstrate absolute political neutrality in the discharge of their duties to stimulate social cohesion, economic self-sufficiency and development, Mr Kofi Dzamesi, Volta Regional Minster said on Monday. He said since efficiency and development at the district level revolved around heads of departments, it would be counter productive for them to demonstrate their political biases, which could thwart development at the grassroots.

Mr Dzamesi, who was addressing heads of departments as part of a day’s working visit to the Kpando District on Monday, entreated the officials to cooperate with the District Chief Executive (DCE), District Coordinating Director (DCD) and the Volta Regional Coordinating Council (VRCC) to speed up policy implementation in the District.

He urged them to work harder as a team, be time conscious and eschew truancy, drunkenness and absenteeism to raise productivity. The Regional Minister commended the heads for their support in the past four years, which had culminated in development in peace and unity and urged them to face the challenges ahead with one accord. Mr Pius Adanuti, DCE, said the Kpando District was poised to achieve excellence in the all endeavours because its dedicated staff were ready to work extra hard.

Questioners at an open forum called for expedited action on the provision of potable water and a check on the frequent breakdown of radio and TV transmission to the northern part of the Region. Earlier Togbega Dagadu VII, Paramount Chief of the Akpini Traditional Area, at a meeting with the Regional Minister, commended government for the development projects in the District, including the rehabilitation of the road network and the Sports Stadium in Kpando. 2 June 05
