Wa, Sept. 5, GNA – Mr Emmanuel Klugah, Upper West Regional Licensing Officer of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority, (DVLA) has criticised teachers with unregistered motor bikes, saying only 100 of the about 800 given to them had been registered.
Mr. Klugah, who told the GNA in an interview at Wa, at the weekend, expressed concern about the lack of respect for road traffic regulations in the Wa Municipality.
He cited the neglect of helmets, non renewal of documents covering vehicles and unregistered motor bikes as some of the offences.
Additionally, he said, over speeding on the major streets, overloading, and riding of motor bikes by minors were worrisome.
Mr. Klugah said the result of these were the increasing rate of recorded accidents annually.
He condemned the activities of tricycles, describing them as “a nuisance to residents and a threat to road safety”.
The Licensing Officer said all these offenses were being committed in spite of the numerous education campaigns undertaken by the DVLA in collaboration with the National Road Safety Commission (NRSC).
He accused the Regional Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) of the Ghana Police Service for not collaborating well with the DVLA to arrest the offenders.
Mr. Klugah explained that non-registration of motor bikes and non-renewal of documents, among other offences, denied the government the needed revenue for development and appealed to the public to honour their responsibilities.
