Dunkwa assembly to set up fund for buruli ulcer victims

Dunkwa-On-Offin (C/R), Aug. 11, GNA – Plans are afoot by the Upper Denkyira District assembly to set up a fund to cater for the treatment and upkeep of buruli ulcer victims in the district.

Mr Richard Anane Adabor, District Chief Executive (DCE), said this at Dunkwa-on-Offin on Sunday, when he received a cheque for two million cedis from the district office of the Produce Buying Company (PBC), on behalf of the Dunkwa government hospital.

The money is to support the treatment of the patients. The hospital’s administrator, Mr Omar Nuru Deen, described the donation as “a great relief to the hospital”, since it spends more than five million cedis a month in feeding such patients alone, and that it had contemplated discharging them due to lack of funds. He urged other public-spirited organisations and individuals to emulate the company.

The deputy regional manager of the PBC, Mr Fred Adu, who presented the cheque, said the donation was in response to an appeal by the hospital authorities, to individuals and organisations to assist in the care of buruli ulcer patients.

In a related development, the local branch of the Seventh Day Adventist church, also presented one million cedis to the hospital, for the same purpose.
