A 27-year-old driver, Felix Annor, has been sentenced to 24 months’ imprisonment with hard labour by the circuit court at Odumase-Krobo for dishonesty and appropriating property belonging to Joseph Tetteh Kwao, a palm wine tapper.
Annor, however, explained that his wife had gone for another man and he was in severe emotional pains and therefore gave the money he stole to a Mallam to charm his wife to return to him, since without her, he would die.
The prosecutor, Detective Inspector Tobias Amoodza, told the court, presided over by Mr Asmah Akwasi Asiedu, that Kwao, worked at Akim Oda, while Annor came from Nuaso, a suburb of Odumase-Krobo.
The prosecutor said Kwao gave his minibus to Annor to work and render daily sales to his younger brother and returned to Akim Oda.
He said Annor took the vehicle away for one week but did not render any sales to Kwao’s younger brother per the agreement.
As a result of that, the prosecutor said, Kwao sent a message to Annor to park the vehicle and hand over the key to the caretaker, a directive Annor complied with.
Inspector Amoadza said about three weeks ago, Kwao returned from Akim Oda and while he was relaxing in his house, Annor came to plead with him to give the vehicle back to him, but he declined.
The prosecutor said Kwao told Annor that he was going to Agomanya to meet a friend so they both went their separate ways.
However, Inspector Amoadza said, when Annor came back home, he detected that someone had entered his room and made away with GH¢700.
The prosecutor said Kwao enquired from the children in the house about the intruder.
He said the children told him that it was Annor who returned shortly after they had both left the house and entered the room.
Kwao, the prosecutor said, traced Annor to his house but he could not be found.
The prosecutor said on September 9, 2013, at about 9am, Kwao’s brothers spotted Annor in town and arrested him and handed him over to the police.
During police investigation, Annor confessed that he took the money.
