Driver on bail for negligently causing harm

Tema, April 8, GNA- A driver who negligently caused harm to a motor rider has been granted 40 million cedis bail by the Tema circuit court “B”. Michael Darko pleaded not guilty to driving without due care and attention and negligently causing harm. He would reappear on April 14.

Chief Inspector Edith Nutakor, prosecuting told the court that on February 25, 2003, at about 1800 hours, Darko was driving a VW Vento along the fishing harbour while there was a heavy traffic.

The accused came out of the queue on the side lane and knocked down a motorbike rider, Mr Ebenezer Obodia Torto who sustained serious injuries. He was rushed to the Tema General Hospital, and three days later, he was transferred to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital where he was operated. Chief Inspector Nutakor said a report was made to the police and he was charged with the offence.
