Driver granted 40 million cedis bail for robbery.

Tema, March 14, GNA — Hakim Sakora Abubakari, a driver, has been granted a 40 million cedis bail with one surety by the Tema Circuit court ‘A’ for allegedly robbing his employer of 18 million cedis. Abubakari pleaded not guilty to two counts of abetment of crime and stealing and is to re-appear on April 03.

Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Adolphus Otchere told the court that Nana Oforiwaa Kwao-Adotey, the complainant who is a customer service officer at Scancom, engaged the services of Abubakari as her personal driver due to her pregnancy. He said on December 15, 2005 the complainant who was having 18 million cedis in her bag went to her building site at Kotobabi Number Two in the company of her mother while the accused drove.

Chief Inspector Otchere said when the complainant and her mother came out after some minutes and were headed towards a nearby building two men on an unregistered motorbike together with Abubakari attacked the complainant. They took the bag containing the money from her and one of them pulled a pistol threatening to kill her mother if she tried to intervene. A report was made to the police and accused was arrested while the other two are on the run.
