Akim Swedru, Dec. 16, GNA – The Akim Swedru Circuit Court in the East= ern Region, on Thursday sentenced Kofi Amoako, a driver-apprentice based in Accra to a fine of GH¢300 for verbally assaulting a judge.
Amoako, a native of Akim Wenchi in the Birim Central Municipality, us= ed offensive language on Mr Albert Annor Owusu, the Akim Oda Magistrate cour= t Judge while both were caught-up in a traffic jam. The convict, who would serve six months prison term in hard labour if= he fails to pay the fine, pleaded not guilty to the charge of breach of peac= e. The prosecution told the court, presided over by Mr Kofi Akrowiah tha= t the incident occurred on December 3, this year, at about 1220 hours at Ak= im Oda township where Amoako, who was driving after the judge, verbally assaulted him (Judge) for slowing down his vehicle.
He said Amoako without any provocation banged on the side door of the=
complainant’s car with one hand. The convict, not satisfied with his action, again pointed his finger at Mr Annor and shouted and used words of insults on him at the full glare o= f the public. The judge, who could not longer tolerate the fury of Amoako, therefor= e, reported the matter to the police.
