Kwamekrom (V/R), Aug 11, GNA – Dr Kwabena Adjei, Member of Parliament (MP) for Biakoye, has failed to get the endorsement of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to contest for the parliamentary seat in Election 2004.
Mr Emmanuel K. Bandua, a 54-year-old Lawyer, defeated Dr Adjei who was seeking the third mandate of constituents.
Mr Bandua polled 142 votes while Dr Adjei had 98 at the constituency primaries of the NDC held at Kwamekrom in the Jasikan District on Tuesday.
Dr Adjei, who expressed surprise at the results, however acknowledged that “the people have spoken” and conceded defeat.
He pledged to mobilise both material and financial support for Mr Bandua to enable the NDC to retain the parliamentary seat and called for peace and harmony among Party supporters.
Mr Bandua appealed to the rank and file of the Party to rally behind him for a resounding electoral victory.
Mr Gershon Gbediame, the NDC MP for Nkwanta North, defeated four contestants at the primaries.
Mr Gbediame obtained 112 votes to beat Mr Dennis Boafoh, former District Chief Executive, who had 51 votes; Mr Peter Okporoh, 25 votes, Mr Walter Gamindi 22 votes and Mr Martin Nkpentey 18 votes. In the newly created Nkwanta South Constituency, Alhaji Iddrisu Montari, a Business Executive, beat Mr Paul Eyator, by 71 votes to 56.
