Don’t take advantage of minors – DEC warns teachers

The first police station ever in the Sekyere-Afram Plains District has been inaugurated at Drobonso, the capital.

Mr Fuseini Donkor, District Chief Executive (DCE), used the occasion to warn teachers who have the penchant of defiling school children to desist from the practice as the law would deal with them.

Teachers have taken advantage of the absence of police station in the area to defile minors and escape the full rigours of the law since obtaining strong evidence for prosecution is extremely difficult.

The DCE said the practice and other criminal activities such as armed robbery and raids by Fulani cattle herdsmen are rampant in the District and added that this was due to late report of the cases as complainants have to travel long distances to Konongo, Kumawu and Effiduase to do so.

He cautioned parents who settle criminal cases out of court to change their attitude as the law would not only deal with the perpetrators but those who fail to report such issues.

The facility was funded by the District Assembly, the chiefs and people. It project started in 2001.

The structure is made up of an armoury, male and female cells, exhibit room, a charge office, criminal investigation department office among other offices and would serve about 91 communities in the district including Dawiah, Seneso and Fonsua.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Nathan Kofi Boakye, Ashanti Regional Police Commander, assured the people that the Ghana Police Service would bring sanity to the area where violent crimes, indiscriminate use of drugs by the youth, illegal sale of offensive weapons and stealing are common.
