Accra, May 15, GNA – Christians should not allow politicians to play the ethnic card to gain power to dominate them since the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost broke the language barrier. On the day of the Pentecost, Jews from various parts of the world could clearly hear the Apostles speaking in their own languages thus breaking the language barrier that was erected at the Tower of Babel, the Most Reverend Dr Robert Aboagye Mensah, Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church, Ghana said on Pentecost Sunday.
The Presiding Bishop, who was speaking during the morning service at the Police Church in Accra, said some politicians have been playing the ethnic card with reckless abandon in their search for political power oblivious of the dire consequences their actions portended for the country.
He urged Christians to rise above ethnicity and ethnic considerations since all were one in Jesus Christ. Conducting the teaching service earlier, The Rev Dr A.A. Akrong, Associate Minister of the Church, explained that the Holy Spirit was God and was not rpt not subject to being conjured up to please the whims and caprices of men.
He traced the presence of the Holy Spirit from the beginning of creation through the period the Spirit worked in Moses, the Judges, Kings of Israel, the Prophets, Jesus Christ, the Apostles and the Early Church to the present day.
Rev Dr Akrong asked Christians to seek for the guidance of the Holy Spirit in whatever they did. 15 May 05
