Domestic violence cases on consistent increase in UWR

Wa, Dec. 2, GNA – Domestic violence cases have since 2008 recorded consistent increases in the Upper West Region, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Ampofo Duku, Deputy Regional Police Commander, has said.

He said in 2008, a total of 164 cases were recorded which increased to 171 in 2009 and 191 in 2010.

ACP Duku made these disclosures during the Community Based Anti-Violence Team (COMBAT) meeting at Wa. He said there were indications that the figure would increase again by the end of 2011.

He warned that indiscipline and lawlessness would not be condoned in the communities, and called on all stakeholders to support COMBAT with training on the country’s laws in order to equip them with the right knowledge and skills to enable them to sensitize community members on domestic violence
