Winneba, April 13, GNA – The Senior Bishop’s Deputy of the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, the Right Reverend Dr. Godfred Zormelo,
has said at Winneba that the nation does not require war to stabilise the democratic rule it is currently pursuing.
He has therefore, cautioned “war-thirsty, selfish and unpatriotic” Ghanaian who have lost their national conscience through partisan politics and want to plunge the nation into civil war to abandon such wicked attitude and develop Godly qualities that could unite the people and push the nation forward.
Rt. Rev. Dr. Zormelo was addressing members of the Church as part of activities marking this year’s Easter festivities at Winneba. He said that what the nation needed to accelerate her socio-economic and other goals in this crucial election year and beyond is absolute peace, stability, love and unity among it citizens to ensure rapid and positive results, and not inflammatory remarks and comments on radio stations and in the print media.
Rt. Rev. Dr. Zormelo said such dangerous situations could easily trigger off serious civil disorder, especially during this period when various political groups are vigorously preparing for electioneering campaigns.
The Senior Bishop’s Deputy charged Christians throughout the country to bring their Christian qualities into play by continuously educating their family members, friends and other relations on the need to ensure peaceful electioneering campaigns and subsequent free and fair elections in next December.
Rt. Rev. Dr. Zormelo told Christians that they would be blamed for doing great disservice to the nation should the nation be dragged into any unpleasant situation like a civil war on the ticket of political expediency.
Rt. Rev. Dr. Zormelo appealed to both Christians and Muslims alike to intensify their daily and weekly special prayers for the stability and progress of the nation and not to wait until the nation got closer to campaigning and election time. 12/04/04
