Akosua Village (Central Region), 15 Jan., People living in areas mapped out for the preservation and maintenance of foreign birds have been asked to ensure their protection. Lieutenant Daniel William Osardu, District Chief Executive for Awutu-Effutu-Senya made the call when he address the people of Akosua Village, near Winneba, as part of his familiarisation tour of departments in the district. Lt. Osardu said since foreign birds are very essential for tourism, areas preserved for them must be properly maintained to attract tourists. Akosua village and Muni lagoon areas, both in the district, have been earmarked by the department of game and wildlife for development as tourist attraction centres due to the large number of foreign birds which converge there during certain periods of the year. At the National Fire Service Station, Mr. John Atta Sam, Officer in Charge, commended the DCE for assisting the District Fire Office to rehabilitate its equipment free of charge and assured him of their preparedness to work harder than before to protect the area from bushfires. Addressing workers of the Ghana Highways Authority, the Chief Executive advised heads of departments in the district to ensure judicious use of resources at their disposal. Other areas he visited included the veterinary services department, Ministry of Food and Agriculture and the German Volunteer Training Centre.
