District Assemblies must help universities established in their areas

Winneba (C/R), May 10, GNA- District Assemblies at areas where universities are situated, have been advised to contribute to the development of such institutions.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Education, Prof. Jophus Anamuah-Mensah, who made the call on Saturday, said such assemblies could set aside a percentage of their annual revenue for that.

Speaking at the launch of the strategic plans for the University at Winneba, Prof. Anamuah-Mensah said the communities in which the universities are located could benefit in diverse ways from the institutions if they are well supported.

The plans which would be the business guide for the university for the next five years, focussed on academic excellence, infrastructure, innovation, partnerships, equity and financial sustainability.

Prof. Anamuah-Mensah called on partners and industries to come out and support the university by sponsoring specific programmes and projects.

“Your support to the university will help in providing sustainable education for the majority of Ghanaians”, he said.

He expressed the hope that the government would address the problem of equal disbursement of funds to the universities.
