Dismissal of police recruits not politically motivated – Cephas Arthur

The Ghana Police Service has refuted claims that the recent dismissal of 206 police recruits was politically motivated.

There have been rumours that the new IGP, David Asante Apeatu caused the dismissal of the recruits who some believe are sympathisers of the now opposition party, the NDC, under whose reign they were recruited with the former under IGP John Kudalor presiding.

The Police Service on Friday sent some 206 new recruits parking home following the realisation that they applied to join the service with forged documents.

Some of the dismissed recruits did not meet the minimum qualification requirements for entry into the service, while others did not have certificates at all.

The IGP David Asante-Apeatu is said to have instructed recruits who applied with WASSCE to be re-vetted before admission while those who submitted BECE, NVTI, NABPTEX and City and Guilds certificates are to return home.

Speaking on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa FM Monday, Director of Public Affairs of the Police Service, Superintendent Cephas Arthur, stated that the move by the police hierarchy was purely administrative and was done in the best interest of the police service and Ghana by extension.

“It is not true that the dismissal was politically motivated. Those who are alleging so have politically inclined intentions, so they are doing so to achieve a certain motive or objective…it is certainly not true. Right from the time we started the process, we built check and scrutiny system into the process so that in the course of the process, those who are not qualified will be exposed. It is very unfortunate that some people are skewing the information this way, for whatever motive I don’t know.”
