Director calls for good training for the youth

Breman Asikuma (C/R), March 7, GNA – Mr Peter Antwi Boasiako, the Coordinating Director of Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa District, has said the future of the nation would depend on the type of training given to children. “Every nation’s future depends on its youth. They must be given the right education and training that would enable them to become useful citizens.”

Mr Boasiako said this when addressing a parade of school children, voluntary organisations, workers and civil society organisations to mark Ghana’s 52nd independence anniversary at Breman Asikuma. The theme for celebration is “Unity and Peace- Pillars for national development”. Chiefs in the traditional area led by the Adontehene of the area, Nana Okroyaw Abonyi X, attended the ceremony that was well patronized. Mr Boasiako urged students in the district to concentrate on their books and be disciplined, honest, obedient and respectful. He expressed concern about the poor performance of schools in the district in the 2008 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) results.

The district placed 12th out 13 districts in the Central Region. Mr Boasiako appealed to teachers, religious leaders, chiefs and parents to come together and do their best to reverse the situation.
