Deputy Education Minister Alex Kyeremeh flops in Jaman South

The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Jaman North, Martin Oti Gyarko, has proven the odds wrong by defeating the incumbent MP for the area, Alex Kyeremeh in Wednesday’s parliamentary poll.

He polled 17,252 of the total valid votes cast to beat the incumbent Kyeremeh who garnered 14,312 votes.

Representative of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) and the People’s National Convention (PNC) polled 75 and 28 votes respectively.

That of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) also polled 908 votes.

The poll which was conducted peacefully in the area recorded a total number of 347 as rejected ballots.

Gyarko had entered into the race as the underdog looking at the experience and pedigree of the incumbent.

Mr. Kyeremeh, who is also a deputy Minister for Education in charge of Pre-Tertiary in 2005 won the seat to represent his people in Parliament.

He lasted for only one term but was immediately made the Municipal Chief Executive for the area when the National Democratic Congress (NDC) won power in 2008.

Mr. Kyeremeh came back strongly in 2012 to put up a spirited fight that won him the seat again.
