Obuasi(Ash),Oct.13, GNA – The Department of Urban Roads has spent over 400 million cedis to construct drains and culverts to reduce flooding within the Obuasi Municipality. This formed part of the Department’s routine maintenance programme for the municipality this year.
Mr Joseph Kwadwo Boampong, Municipal Chief Executive announced these in his sessional address to the assembly at Obuasi on Wednesday. He said other activities under the routine maintenance programme included patching of potholes and minor drainage repairs on some roads. These are the central market to stadium, hospital to Mensakrom and Kwabrafoso to Brahabebome roads.
Mr Boampong said rehabilitation of some selected roads within the municipality estimated at 1.5 billion cedis were on-going. The 50-kilometer roads, included the Kwabenakwa, Nyameso and Diawuoso, Mensakrom, Kofokrom and Bogobri, Court, Nyamebekyere and Tutuka roads.
Others are Kunka, Industrial area and New Akaporiso and Pomposo-Asonkore roads.
The Municipal Chief Executive said bids for three other projects, the upgrading of the Municipal Assembly, Obuasi Secondary Technical road, the signalization of Kunka junction and roads line-marking and the erection of road signs had been opened and work would commence on them before the end of the year.
He announced that the Obuasi-Akrofuom road and Akrofuom town roads had been re-awarded for rehabilitation at an estimated cost of about 13 billion cedis to be completed within 12 months. On revenue mobilization, Mr Boampong said the assembly was able to collect about 1.1 billion cedis representing 42 per cent of the estimated revenue of 2.8 billion cedis within the first half of the year.
