Nkawkaw(ER), June 07, GNA – Headteachers of basic schools in Kwahu West District have expressed concern about the delay in the release of Capitation grant for disbursement that had affected effective teaching and learning in schools.
They observed that the second tranche of the grant for 2006/2007 academic year expected to be released for second term was released at the beginning of the third term.
“As a result, the end of term examinations were written on the blackboard since there were no funds to print the examination papers,” they contended.
The headteachers made the observation when Ghana News Agency interacted with them following complaints from some parents about the writing of examination questions on the blackboard for school pupils. They therefore; appealed to the Ministry of Education, Science and Sports to ensure early release of the third tranche of the grant before the end of the third term for the schools to conduct effective terminal and promotion examinations.
Mr Seth Koranteng, Kwahu West District Director of Education, when contacted said the District Directorate of Education had disbursed 232.7 million cedis being its share of the second tranche of the grant for the 2006/2007 academic year to 25,762 Kindergarten, Primary and Junior Secondary Schools in the district.
He said each child would receive 9,019 cedis for the term to cater for sports and culture fees, cost of minor rehabilitation works and purchases in the schools.
Mr Koranteng said though there was a delay in the release of the second tranche, all the needed inputs for the third tranche had been submitted to Ghana Education Service Headquarters in Accra and was optimistic would be released on time for disbursement to schools.
