Deadlock in an attempt to construct a road; residents clash with government officials

Following a clash with the minister of Roads and Highways, Kwasi Amoako Atta, persons who have set up businesses on the shoulders of the Tema motorway have had a run – in with his deputy Anthony Karbo.

The ministry, desirous of evicting them, met the unexpected as the people put up a fierce resistance.

Three persons, reportedly workers of Atpage Limited and Ottis Equipment, a group of companies that rent out bulldozers, are allegedly being detained by the East Legon police, as investigations continue.

The ministry intends to construct a tunnel that would link the Spintex Road to East Legon, but the persons present at the scene fought off the officials who came.
