DCE hands over four projects, rejects furniture

Kunta, Feb. 22, GNA – Mr. Ameen Salifu, the Wa East District Chief Executive, has handed over four education and health facilities to four deprived communities in the district. The facilities are a three-unit classroom block with sanitary facilities each at Kunta and Yaro, two unit Kindergarten blocks at Djankoru and a Community-based Health Planning Services (CHPS) facility at Goripie. The four facilities, which were constructed at a total cost of GH¢197,700.00, were funded from the District Wide Assistance Project (DWA= P). At the handing over ceremony on Monday, Mr Salifu rejected some furniture supplied to the Kunta school block because of their poor quality. The supply of the furniture was financed by the GETFund.

Almost half of the furniture had already broken down although the pupils ha= d not started using them. Mr. Salifu said he would not compromise with any contractor who did shoddy work and added he would liaise with GETFund to get the contractor to replace the furniture. He said school infrastructure was a key component of quality education and that was why the government was committed to the construction of more classroom blocks to add to the already existing ones as well as replace all under tree schools. Madam Dominica Dasaah, the Wa East District Director of Education, thanked the Assembly for providing the buildings, adding that it would help make learning easier for the pupils and their teachers.

She advised parents to ensure that children of both sexes were enrolle= d at school and appealed to the PTA/SMC to ensure that they supervised the teachers to avoid frequently absenting themselves from school.
