DCE calls for immediate termination of road contract

Nkawie (Ash.), June 14, GNA – Mr. Thomas Ofori-Donkor, District Chief Executive for Atwima Nwabiagya, has called for an immediate termination of two road projects in the area awarded to two construction companies, Yapo Transport and Services Limited and Nkakon Constuction Limited, for non-performance.

The two are working on the Afari-Nerebehi-Nkawie feeder road and the Nkawie-Toase town roads and for a period of more than one year, they had abandoned work on the projects.

Mr Ofori-Donkor said the District Assembly could no longer accept the situation where some Contractors after being awarded jobs simply abandoned them.

He noted that the Afari-Nerebehi-Nkawie road project for example, was awarded as far back as October 2003, and was scheduled for completion and handed over by February 2005.

That of the Nkawie-Toase town roads had a one-year contract period and should therefore have been completed by May, last year. Mr Ofori-Donkor said the beneficiary communities as well as the District Assembly had had their patience overstretched and that the only remedy now was to terminate the contracts and re-award them to another contractor.
