“Uphold Ghana’s image…Against foreign saboteurs – Ishmael Yamson”, is the lead headline of the Graphic. The accompanying story says Mr Ishmael Yamson, chairman of Unilever Ghana Limited, has cautioned Ghanaians against allowing themselves to be used by foreigners to damage the image and reputation of Ghana. He said this is even more important at this time when the cfountry needs foreign investment. Mr Yamson, according to the Graphic, referred to a purpoted report about Ghana being the sixth most corrupt among 40 nations and wondered how anybody could come to that conclusion at this stage in Ghana’s economic development, unless there is an ulterior motive. In another front page story headlined “Juapong residents boycott meat from local butchers”, the Graphic reports that many residents of Juapong in the Volta Region, have boycotted buying meat from local butchers due to the very filthy conditions under which animals are slauightered and dressed. The paper says instead, some residents prefere to buy their meat requirements from Akosombo in the Eastern Region, where conditions are more hygenic. GRI

The Graphic in a centre spread story reports that a 48-year-old pupil teacher at Twede, a fishing village near Kwame Danso in the Brong Ahafo Region, has been arraigned at a Regional Tribunal for allegedly defiling two of his pupils. The tribunal chaired by Mr Adu Gyamfi, rejected the plea of the suspect , Stephen Gbatefgo Dzorka, and consequently remanded him in prison custody until February 4. Dzorka is alleged to have lured the two girls, both nine years, into the bush during class hours and forcibly had sexual intercourse with them. GRI

“Ghana to mark Black History Month in February”, is the headline of a back page story which says over 200 African-American are expected in the country this month to participate in the annual ‘Black History Month” event which also coincides with the 130th birthday of the late Dr W.E.B. Du Bois, a Pan African, which falls on February 23. The Graphic says the event, which spans the month, is celebrated against the backkground of honouring and paying of tributes to stute and accomplished Blackk heroes. GRI
