Late Ghanaian highlife icon Dada KD will be given a state-assisted funeral on Saturday, August 16, at the forecourt of the State House in Accra, before being laid to rest in his hometown, Agona Asaaman, in the Central Region.
The funeral arrangements were announced by the family during a one-week memorial held at the East Legon Executive Club. The memorial attracted a host of musicians and public figures, including Kojo Antwi, Kaakyire Kwame Appiah, Nana Romeo, and other admirers of the late artist.
A Thanksgiving service will be held on Sunday, August 17, as part of the final rites. Mourners are expected to wear black and white following the family’s wishes to honour Dada KD’s legacy.
Dada KD, born with a soulful voice that defined a generation of highlife lovers, passed away on May 17, 2025, just days ahead of a scheduled performance in London on May 25. his sudden passing shocked fans and fellow musicians alike, triggering an outpouring of tributes.
He was best known for timeless hits such as “Tekyere Ma,” “Ene Menye,” “Wosuro a Wondi,” and “Honey Love.” These songs not only dominated the airwaves but also etched his name firmly into the hearts of Ghanaians across generations.
Close friend and fellow musician KK Fosu described him as a “true legend who left a lasting mark on Ghana’s music industry.” Many others have echoed similar sentiments, praising his contribution to highlife and his commitment to preserving the genre’s authenticity.
The state-assisted funeral is expected to draw a large crowd of fans, dignitaries, musicians, and political figures who will come together to celebrate the life and music of a man whose art bridged generations and told stories that still resonate.
