Crosschecking the validity of records on the Voters’ Register is

personal – EC

Accra, Oct. 12, GNA – Registered voters, who have travelled outside the country, would lose the opportunity to crosscheck their data in the Provisional Voters’ Register, which is being exhibited from October 12 to October 17.

Ms Lawrencia Kpatakpa, Greater Accra Regional Director of the Electoral Commission (EC), told the Ghana News Agency that any correction of data should be done personally to help eliminate fraud, double registration and other registration malpractices.

During the voter registration exercise from March 16 to March 29, 2004, the EC allowed potential voters who had travelled to notify the Commission to register at a later date.

Ms Kpatakpa urged all registered voters, who would find fault with their official records to exercise restraint since they would be corrected.

The Commission has mounted cameras at strategic centres to cover those whose photographs were omitted from the register.

Ms Kpatakpa said registered voters, who had misplaced their Identity Cards should notify the EC and apply for replacements. Such applicants’ documents would be verified at the Data Processing Department of the EC before a new voter ID card is issued. patronage was low.
