Court remands unemployed man for resisting arrest

Kwabena Poku, unemployed, who resisted arrest and in the process caused harm to some Police personnel, have been remanded in custody by the Akim Swedru Circuit Court in the Birim South District.

Briefing the Ghana News Agency at Akim Oda in the Birim Central Municipality, Detective Inspector Kwadwo Antwi said Poku was charged with resisting arrest and assault on public officers.

He said the complainants are policemen stationed at Akim Oda Divisional Headquarters, while the accused, Poku, lives at Akim Oda Old Town.

He said on October 26, the Police had a tip-off that Poku who was on a Police wanted list for alleged murder case, had resurfaced from his hideout and was moving around at Oda Old Town.

Inspector Antwi said the Police swiftly moved to the town and in an attempt to arrest him, he became offended, resisted arrest and engaged the Police in a serious scuffle.

He said during the struggle, Poku bit Lance Corporal Charles Asante three times on his chest, right arm and left finger and bit the finger of Constable Frank Adatsi.

Inspector Antwi said it took a re-enforcement of Police patrol team to overpower Poku.
