Court remands trader for sodomy

Accra June 10, GNA – A Circuit Court in Accra has remanded into Police custody a 46- year- old trader, Augustine Oteng for allegedly sodomising a 16-year-old boy.

The court did not take the plea of Oteng.

Oteng who has been charged with unnatural carnal knowledge is to reappear on June 15.

The prosecutor, Police Inspector I.A.A. Ahor prayed the court not take his plea to allow further investigation into the matter.

The case as presented by prosecution said the victim is a squatter and therefore stays at the Railways terminal in Accra. The accused also resides in the same vicinity.

Prosecution said the victim sometimes assisted the accused in selling second hand wares. On the night of June 3, this year, the victim alleged that the accused had anal sex with him without his consent.

The following day, the victim with the assistance of a witness lodged a complaint with the Railway Police and Oteng was arrested.

Prosecution said the matter was therefore referred to the Domestic Violence and Victim’s Support Unit where the victim was issued with a medical form so he could be examined and treated at a hospital.
