Court remands mentally-deranged woman for murder

Axim (W/R), July 30, GNA – A District magistrate’s court at Axim in Nzema District on Monday remanded in custody, a 55-year-old mentally deranged woman for murder.

Awurba Nyameke Amoah allegedly butchered to death the daughter of ‘Osofo’ Esther Obaa Yaa, who operates a Nakaba Garden prayer camp at Anwia, near Ellembelle, where she had been taken for spiritual healing. The court did not take her plea, pending advice from the Attorney General’s Office.

Police Chief Inspector E. K. Danyo, prosecuting, told the court, presided over by Mr. Frank Addo Ashiettey, that the accused went on a rampage on July 22 this year at about 0200 hours after breaking a chain on her leg and butchered the eight-year old girl with a cutlass she picked from the compound.

The girl, who was asleep on the compound together with others at the time of the incident, became unconscious and died later at the Eikwe Catholic Mission Hospital. 30 July 08
