Court remands man who murdered daughter

Kojo Kusasi, a farm labourer at Akwei Allah village near Enchi was remanded in prison custody by a Tarkwa Circuit Court for cutting his four-year-old daughter into pieces.

His plea was not taken and the court, presided over by Mr Isaac Lartey Young, ordered him to re-appear on February 27, 2003.

Inspector Constance Addo of Tarkwa presenting the facts of the case said Kusasi lives at the village with his wife and two daughters.

She said on January 16, 2003 at dawn the wife heard Kusasi shouting and woke up to find out what was happening.

Kusasi blamed the wife that she was a witch and should leave the room before he slaughters her.

Realising that Kusasi was seriously looking for cutlass the wife started shouting for help from nearby villages and fled into the bush with the two-year-old daughter who had then woke up by the shout.

Inspector Addo said on finding a cutlass, Kusasi came back to the room and cut the four-year-old daughter who was asleep into pieces.

She said the villagers nearby organised themselves and disarmed Kusasi and sent him to Enchi Police Station with the severed head of the daughter.

At the Police Station, Inspector Addo said, Kusasi confessed that it was a spirit which told him to murder the daughter.

The Police and some officers from Environmental Health went to the scene.

The pieces of the body were gathered for burial upon the advice of officers from Environmental Health.

The docket has been sent to Attorney General’s office for advice.
