Court remands labourer for stealing 300 fowls

Dormaa-Ahenkro, (B/A), May 2, GNA – A circuit court at Dormaa-Ahenkro, has remanded Salifu Alidu, a farm labourer, in prison custody for allegedly stealing 300 poultry fowls. Alidu, who stole the birds that valued GHC2,100.00 from the Sankofa Poultry Farm at Kuren, near Dormaa-Ahenkro, would re-appear before court on May 11.

Police Inspector Bismarck Boye Lartey told the court presided by Mr. Alexander Osei Tutu that the complainant was Managing Director of the Farm, and Alidu lived and worked at Kuren. Prosecution said Mr Tutu, who detected that flows were being stolen from the farm, had a tip-off that Alidu was selling fowls to the public at low prices.

Insp Lartey said when Mr Tutu confronted Alidu, he abandoned the birds and absconded but he (Alidu) was later arrested at his hide-out by some youth and handed over to the Police. The court also sentenced Ernest Agyeman, an unemployed man from Dormaa-Ahenkro, to three years imprisonment for unlawfully entering the bedroom of a carpenter, to rob him(carpenter). Insp. Lartey told the court that on April 18 at about 0200 hours, Agyeman opened the door and entered the room when the carpenter and his two friends were asleep.

He said the friends were awoken by noise from the door and they raised the alarm but Agyeman managed to escape. Insp Lartey said the friends arrested Agyeman in a nearby bush and handed him over to the Police.

The prosecution told the court that two Nokia cell-phones, suspected to have been stolen, were found on the accused. Insp Lartey said Agyeman in his caution statement indicated that he entered the room because he was looking for a sleeping place. 2 May 11
