Court remands farmer for possessing firearm

Akim Swedru, May 17, GNA – Kobena Opoku, 28, a farmer at Akim Adwobue in the Birim North District, was on Tuesday remanded by the Akim Swedru Circuit court for possessing firearm without authority. The accused, whose plea was taken, will re-appear on May 31. Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Ben Osei Kwadwo told the court that on May 4 the accused, armed himself with a locally-manufactured pistol, fired indiscriminately into the air.

He said members of the Adwodue Neighbourhood Watch Committee arrested the accused and handed him over to the police. 17 May 05
