Court orders cattle owner to slaughter them by August 9

Accra, July 28, GNA – The Adjabeng Court ‘2’ on Wednesday ordered Alhaji Mohammed to slaughter two cows he was keeping in his house for his intended engagement by August 9 or have them confiscated to the state.

Alhaji Mohammed, who pleaded guilty for failing to obey court orders to relocate the animals from the metropolis, pleaded with the court that he was going to do an Islamic engagement on August 8 and would slaughter the animals for the programme.

The court presided over by Miss Mariam Sinare accepted his explanation but warned that if by August 9 he had not done that the animals would be confiscated.

Another cattle owner who appeared in court also for failing to relocate his animals, Alhaji Sani Moro, was given up to August 11 to relocate his cattle or go to prison for two weeks.

Prosecuting, Mr Daniel Opare, Chief Environmental Health Officer of the Accra Metropolitan Public Health Department, said the accused persons kept their herd of cattle on their premises in Accra New Town and Kotobaabi.

He said following complaints, several warnings and health education requiring them to relocate their cattle from the metropolis, they refused to comply with the directives.

Mr Opare told the court that the animals defecated on ceremonial streets and at times blocked traffic, creating nuisance for the public.
