Court jails man for threatening to kill his mother

Nyinahin (Ash), Feb 5, GNA – The Nyinahin magistrate court has sentenced a 28-year-old unemployed to 24 months in prison for threatening to kill his mother.

Yaw Sarbeng alias Attah of Kyereyaaso, pleaded guilty to the charge.

Police Chief Inspector George Letsah told the court, presided over by Mr Beresford Sarfo Acquah that the accused had a severe headache and consulted an oracle.

He said the oracle told Sarbeng that it was his mother who was the cause of the headache.

Chief Inspector Letsah said the accused on his return from the oracle demanded seven million cedis from his mother, Madam Yaa Mansah to use in curing his sickness.

He said the mother of the accused, however, could not raise that amount and so on November 4, 2004, Sarbeng became offended and took a cutlass with the intention of killing the mother. The prosecutor said a report was therefore, made to the police and Sarbeng was arrested and after investigations, charged with the offence.
