Court jails convicts from escaping from prison

Sekondi, Nov 11, GNA – A Sekondi District Magistrate’s Court on Thursday sentenced two convicts, Alex Darko, 24 years, and Stephen Kwasi Mensah, 20, to eighteen months imprisonment each in hard labour for conspiracy to escape from lawful custody and escaping from lawful custody.

They pleaded guilty to both charges.

Emeka Onyejeke, a Nigerian who was jointly charged with them, is on the run.

Prosecuting, Police Inspector Agnes Boafo said the accused persons were prisoners at the Sekondi Central Prisons.

Darko is serving 15 months for stealing while Mensah and Onyejeke are serving 30 years and 40 years respectively for robbery. Inspector Boafo said on October 22 the accused persons forced open the door of their cell and had access to the main compound of the Prison.

A prison officer spotted them climbing the fence wall of the prison raised an alarm and Darko and Mensah were arrested but Onyejeke escaped.
