Court grants housewife 20 million cedis bail

Nkawie (Ash), Dec. 30, GNA – The Nkawie circuit court has granted a housewife, Madam Amma Owusuwaa from Atwima-Koforidua, 20 million cedis bail for assaulting Madam Akosua Pomaa, leading to the termination of her three-month pregnancy.

Owusuwaa, who was remanded in prison custody at her first appearance, pleaded not guilty and will re-appear on January 16. Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Robert Yitamkey told the court presided over by Mr Noble Nkrumah that, both Owusuwaa and the complainant, Madam Pomaa lived in the same vicinity at Atwima-Koforidua. He said on November 4, this year, the accused confronted Pomaa, who was three months pregnant for gossiping about her. Chief Inspector Yitamkey said the complainant, however, denied gossiping about her.

The prosecution said in spite of the denial, Owusuwaa pounced on Pomaa and brutally assaulted her and kicked her in the lower abdomen. Chief Inspector Yitamkey said a witness, who was at the scene advised the accused to stop kicking the complainant in the lower abdomen but she retorted that after all if she went to jail, she would return. He said Pomaa reported the case to the Abuakwa police, who gave her a medical report form to the hospital.

The following day, the prosecution said, Pomaa started bleeding profusely and was therefore rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), where doctors told her that her pregnancy had been terminated. Chief Inspector Yitamkey said on hearing of the termination of the complainant’s pregnancy, Owusuwaa went into hiding but was arrested and after investigation charged with the offence.
