Court gives man for defiling one and- a half- year old girl

Berekum (B/A) May 15, GNA – A circuit court at Berekum dismissed a 20 year-old farmer’s plea that it was the devil who made him to defile a one and-a half- year old girl at Dwenem in Jaman South district of Brong Ahafo and sentenced him to 10 years imprisonment in hard labour. The accused pleaded guilty to the charge and was sentenced accordingly by the court, presided by Mr. P. K. Richardson. Inspector Paul K. Anane of Adamsu Police Station prosecuting stated that the accused, Kwame Obeng, resided at Dwenem, while the complainant in

the case, Madam Emelia Takyiwaa, a farmer in the town was the mother of the victim.

He said at about 0630 hours on April 23 this year, Madam Takyiwaa left her sleeping baby girl in a room to attend to nature’s call. The complainant returned some minutes later to meet the victim crying and when she lifted her up found semen on the body of the baby. Inspector Anane said the mother suspected that her baby had been defiled by the accused who was in the house but he denied the allegation.

But upon further interrogation before Mr. Moses Kyere Nyansaye Assembly Member, the accused admitted defiling the baby. Obeng was then handed over to the police. A medical report from St. Mary’s Hospital at Drobo confirmed that the victim had been defiled.
