Court fines Nigerian for forgery

Aflao, July 25, GNA – Chukwueme Obdomechine, 33, a Nigerian who was arrested with eight forged rubber stamps with the incision of a number of institutions, has been fined GH¢240.00 by an Aflao Circuit Court

Obdomechine, who pleaded guilty to the charge of forgery, will be jailed for two years in default.

Mr Stephen Wuni, a detective police sergeant of Aflao, told the court presided over by Mr Francis Obiri that Obdomechine, a building contractor, arrived at the Aflao border at about 1400 hours on June 11, on a visit to Ghana.

He said during routine checks in his luggage by Customs Excise and Preventive Services personnel, the rubber stamps with the incisions of Ghanaian and Nigerian judicial, financial and anti-corruption institutions were found on him.

Mr Wuni said Obdomechine was arrested on suspicion of having criminal intent and was subsequently handed over to the police.

The incisions include Financial Action Task Force (Cleared), Barclays Bank (Approved), High Court of Justice, Ghana (Office of the Registrar), Federal High Court (Probate Division – Dispatched), Contract Review Committee (PAID) and Barclays Bank (First Andrew Square).

Mr Wuni said the suspect during interrogation said though the items were found on him, they did not belong to him and named one John, also a Nigerian, whose whereabouts he could not disclose as the owner.

The court ordered the destruction of the stamps.
