Court fines local gin distiller

Juaso (Ash), Aug 09, GNA – The Juaso Circuit Court has imposed a fine of 180,000 cedis on a local gin distiller (Akpeteshie) at Juaso-Nkwanta for refusing to participate in communal labour. Kwasi Attah pleaded guilty and will be gaoled for 30 days in default.

The court ordered that 100,000 cedis of the fine should be paid to the Juaso District Assembly, while the 80,000 cedis should go to the Juaso-Nkwanta Unit Committee.

Prosecuting, Mr Dickson Lartey, told the Court that on June 14 the accused did not take part in a communal labour organised in the town and also refused to pay 15,000 cedis’ fine demanded by the Unit Committee.
