Court bonds mechanic six months for assault

Assin Foso (C/R), Feb 7. GNA – The Assin Fosu district magistrate’s court, on Wednesday bonded Emmanuel Afful, an auto mechanic from Old-Tafo Kumasi to be of good behaviour for six months for causing harm. Afful was convicted on his own plea and would go to prison for six months in default.

The court also ordered Afful to pay a restitution fee of GH¢50.00 to compensate Mr Asiamah. Prosecuting, Superintendent Godact Hlordzi told the court, presided over by Mr Joseph Blay, that Afful was a sprayer resident in Kumasi while Mr Asiamah was a farmer at Assin Nyankomasi. He said there was a misunderstanding between Afful’s wife and Mr Asiamah at Assin Nyankomasi. He said Mrs Afful travelled to Kumasi to inform her husband that Mr Asamoah had assaulted her. On January 4, 2008 Afful travelled to Nyankomasi and confronted Mr Asiamah and in the exchanges, he pounced on him with blows and also hit his head with a stick, resulting in a deep cut on the head. Superintendent Hlordzi said Mr Asiamah was rescued by a passer-by and the matter was later reported to the Foso Police. He said Afful disappeared from the town and reported the case to the Old Tafo Police station in Kumasi but was referred to the Assin Foso Police station where he was arrested and charged.
