Contracts on delayed projects will be re-awarded – DCE

Daboase (W/R) April 23, GNA- Mr. Emmanuel Tawiah Amprofi, District Chief Executive (DCE) for Mpohor Wassa East has said that the assembly would be compelled to re-award contracts on a number of projects that had been unnecessarily delayed or “deserted” to new contractors. This is to ensure that all development projects earmarked for some communities were completed within schedule, he said.

Mr. Amprofi was addressing the sixth ordinary meeting of the fourth session of the district assembly at Daboase on Thursday.

He said work on a 300 seating capacity community centre at Brofoyedur and three separate six-unit classroom blocks at Aboaboso, Angu and Kwaabaa has come to a halt due to the attitude of contractors working on the projects.

Mr. Amprofi appealed to the Regional Director of the Social Investment Fund (SIF) and Community Based Organisations (CBOs), to support the assembly in finding solutions to the problem.

He said 78 million cedis of its share of the assemblies common fund and 1.5 billion cedis GETFUND were used for the construction of a four, six-unit classroom blocks, each with a library, staff common room, office and store at Daboase, Ayiem, Osenso and Edumase.

Mr. Amprofi said the Daboase market project would soon be awarded on contract to the Legna Construction Company.

On revenue, he said the assembly realised 276.6 million cedis from its internal sources as against the target of 323.2 million and added that the assembly hopes to improve on revenue mobilisation.

He gave the assurance that the assembly would re-roof the classroom blocks of the Anglican primary and Junior Secondary Schools (JSS), which were damaged during a recent rainstorm.

He said a memorandum of understanding had been signed between the assembly and the Western Veneer Company Limited (WVLC), to re-shape the Daboase-Ateiku, Daboase-Akrofi, Essaman-Sekyere Krobo roads, as part of the company’s social responsibility to the communities. 23 April 04
