Contractor in court for allegedly issuing dud cheque

Cape Coast, Oct.18, GNA – David Owusu-Abrokwa, a 45-year-old building contractor was on Tuesday granted 25 million cedis bail with a surety by a Cape Coast Circuit Court for allegedly issuing a dud cheque.

Owusu-Abrokwa pleaded not guilty to issuing a 17.7 million cedis dud cheque to Mr Augustine Kubah and would reappear on November 7.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Augustine Amonoo, told the court presided over by Mr Mustapha Logoh, that the complainant is the Managing Director of “Kubahgest ventures”, a block manufacturing company at Cape Coast and supplied Owusu-Abrokwa with blocks on credit basis. He said sometime in April this year, Owusu-Abrokwa received a contract to build places of convenience at the Mfantsiman and Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem districts and therefore, went to Mr Kubah for 3,600 blocks valued at 17.7 million for the projects.

Police Inspector Amonoo said Owusu-Abrokwa issued a post-dated cheque covering the amount to be cashed on June 10.

He said Mr Kubah presented the cheque at the bank but it was dishonoured and when the accused was informed about the situation, he failed to rectify it and the matter was reported to the police. The prosecution said during interrogation, Owusu-Abrokwa admitted the offence, and has since paid seven million cedis to Mr Kubah.
