Contain religious riots

Accra, March 2, GNA – Colonel Opoku Adusei, Director of Operations, Ghana Armed Forces on Wednesday cautioned against intra-religious riots, which might not have any political undertone but could be exploited to thwart national development.

Col. Adusei, who was speaking at a lecture organized by the Valley View University to enlighten the students on issues bothering on national security in Accra noted that intra-religious riots were new phenomenon and that steps ought to taken to ensure that such acts were nipped in the bud.

The state of the national security was relatively calm and that there was no cause for alarm, he said.

He said anytime the citizenry felt secured they would show concern for developmental programmes.

“It is important that government continue to pursue policies of peaceful co-existence that will guarantee national cohesion”.

Col. Adusei also warned against the use of propaganda and other psychological warfare tactics to influence the populace.

He urged politicians to be transparent and pursue a prudent economic policy that was geared towards improving the lives of the people.

Dr Antwi Owusu, Acting President of the University noted that security was important ingredient in all spheres of life. He said as a result the school ensured that programs were structured to tutor the students on security issues to make them alert and responsible.

Dr Owusu observed that discipline was a security device that, when properly applied would make individuals corrupt free and responsible in life.
