Consider personal safety when using burglar proofs- Fire Expert

Sekondi, Jan. 23, – GNA – Nana Ekow Abban, Western Regional Commander of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) said the use of burglar proof and other security measures used in homes, churches, restaurants and other public places must not compromise their owner’s personnal safety. Nana Abban, who was speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview at Sekondi on Tuesday said though the use of such security tools were meant to prevent crimes and safeguard property, adequate provision must be made to allow easy access to the premises in case of a fire outbreaks.

He said recent fire outbreaks reported on national television showed that neighbours and could easily not assist the victims of such fires and therefore lives and properties worth millions of cedis was lost. Nana Abban said if break in tools were not sufficient to be used before the GNFS arrived on the scene, many properties worth millions of cedis would be lost to the fire disasters.

Nana Abban, who is also an Assistant Chief Fire Officer therefore, appealed to estate developers, landlords and house owners to find alternative security measures instead of using burglar proof for their windows, doors and other entrances.

He advised industrial establishments to acquire fire extinguishers and other fire fighting equipment and train their personnel on fire fighting.
