Confusion mars Western Regional House of Chiefs’ elections

There was confusion at the Western Regional House of Chiefs on Thursday, September 22 after Nsein Paramount Chief filed a motion for adjournment of elections.

Awulae Agyefi Kwame filed the motion for adjournment, complaining that two members of the House had cases pending at the lower and higher courts and them taking part in elections could have dire consequences for the House.

The chiefs had gathered to elect a president, vice president and representatives to the National House of Chiefs, Onua FM’s correspondent said. But Awulae Kwame’s motion did not go down well with some of the chiefs notably Paramount Chief for Lower Dixcove Nana Kwesi Agyemang and Awulae Atti Brukusu, who openly expressed dissent.

The ensuing exchanges forced the Electoral Commission officers to leave with their biometric equipment.

The paramount chief of Nsein Traditional Area put all the blame at the doorstep of the Electoral Commission, whom he accused of superintending illegitimate elections four years ago.
