Narh-Bita Hospital, a Tema-based private hospital, has introduced the first ever programme for computer-assisted brain surgery, known as Stereotactic into the country.
The programme enables brain surgery to be conducted with ultra-modern equipment in a safe, simple and accurate manner. A statement by the Hospital said the new technology, which allows surgery to be performed with local anesthesia without blood transfusion, is the first in Sub-Saharan Africa. The system was acquired and installed by an independent non-profit organization, “neuroGhana,” which co-operates with other institutions to fight neurologic diseases like neck and back pains, strokes, epilepsy and chronic headaches. It has a much lower complication and allows patients to be discharged within 24-48 hours after an operation.
