Companies donate towards national best farmer award

Accra, Oct. 17, GNA – Five institutions on Friday donated items to the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA) towards this year’s National Best Farmer awards.

They were Mr Yaw Opoku Atuahene, Deputy Managing Director, Credit and Administration, Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) presented documents on the 300 million cedis house the Bank built for the National Best Farmer.

Mr Kalmoni Salem, Managing Director of Japan Motors, donated a fibre boat and an in boat marine engine worth 97 million cedis. Mr Daniel A Otoo, a staff of Otuaban Trading Enterprise, presented an eight horsepower diesel engine corn mill.

The Management of Geoyan Enterprise, dealers in agricultural inputs, presented an electric motor and a corn mill worth four million cedis.

Foundry and Agriculture Machinery Ghana Limited, based in Tema, donated a seven thousand-dollar 35 horsepower engine tractor. Major Courage Quashigah, Minister of MOFA, who received the items, said the Ministry would carry out an inspection of the house donated by the ADB, located near the Weija Lake in Accra. He commended the institutions for their support to the Ministry to improve agriculture production in Ghana and urged other institutions to emulate them.

Major Quashigah appealed to fishermen to use the modern fibre boats instead of wooden boats in their operations to protect the environment and the forest.
