Community Health Project launched to mark GPSA’s Anniversary

Miotso (G/A), Oct 13, GNA – A community outreach service programme dubbed: “Community Health Project” has been launched to climax activities marking the maiden anniversary celebration of the Central University College branch of the Ghana Pharmaceutical Students’ Association at the Miotso campus of the University near Prampram. Launching the project Mr Emmanuel Kwaku Ireland, the President of the Association, said the programme would be an annual event. Tsopoli, a town near Dawhenya, has been selected and about 500 pupils of the Kpohe D/A Basic School as well as the community would be educated on the epidemiology of malaria and testing for the disease with Rapid Diagnostic Test Kits.

They would also be educated on worm infestation, de-worming and counseling on other health-related issues. Mr Ireland said the headmaster of the school, its Parent/Teacher Association, community leaders and the health centre in the Tsopoli community had all been engaged in the project. He said the Association has conducted a feasibility study to facilitate the smooth take-off of the project. Mr Ireland commended the National Malaria Control Programme for its technical support for the project. 13 Oct 10
